Frank has crossed briefly into California, but is still due to head back into Nevada!

It turns out that our suspicions about him underplaying the severity of his foot injury were well founded. His left foot had been giving him some trouble for a few weeks and about 10 days ago this foot became more swollen and painful and he started having difficulty walking. Using his support vehicle he fast forwarded to a foot specialist in Reno who started manipulating the foot until there was an audible click. One of the small joints in his foot had become dislocated and the foot surgeon had put it back in place. He got the injury returning down a rough trail in the national park 3 weeks ago.

Frank really likes Nevada as a State, and loves the space and sage brush desert scenery. The separation of the towns is 70-80 miles and he has recently seen a sign along the road saying 83 miles to the next services! He is finding it not quite such hard going as he thought it might be with the desert climate. The temperatures still reach the low 90's F by day, but it does cool down a long way at night, a far cry from Kansas with its day temperatures in the 100's F and night temperatures at this level.

Frank only has about 3-4 weeks to go until he reaches the end of his odyssey. It looks like he will reach the Golden gate before his birthday on the 8th October and is due to fly back a few days after this date if there is no major change in plan. His wife Carole is due to join him next Friday at Reno to walk with him for the last few hundred miles across California. Frank is sure he will recognize her, but not sure if she will recognize him. As you can see by the photos above before he left the UK he was clean shaven, but now sports a full beard and cuts quite a figure in his straw hat!
