Frank has crossed into Utah!

He crossed the border this Tuesday. He was glad to hear Roy Waller tell him the weather had been hot in Norwich, England his home town though the temperatures are well short of the those Frank has been experiencing since he reached desert country. Temperatures of 100-110F, (38-42C )are commmon by day and the hottest part of the day is the afternoon. The vegetation is minimal, though today since he is at an oasis in Moab which has a river and palm trees. Frank has readjusted his walking schedule to take account of this starting at 7am this morning and 6am tomorrow to take advantage of the cooler mornings. The trail is hot on both his feet and his head. Frank is still walking at his pace of 20+ miles a day but finishing earlier so he can find shade from the hot afternoon sun.

As promised he has been joined by Ed Blake an old friend from Australia who has made the trek across the desert feasible by having a motor-home which can keep vital supplies close at hand. Frank no longer needs to carry his pack during his walk for the next few weeks so he is much relieved.

Frank has declared a day he hopes to reach the Golden gate which is the 8th October, his birthday!
